Creating a Network of Resources to Provide Holistic Social Services for all of our Community

June 20, 2023

Community services is an area that continues to be a top priority for me. Today, more than ever, our community needs our help in all matters, be it continued pandemic response, mental health, food and fuel assistance, or navigating difficult life situations. I am proud of the community collaboration we have initiated throughout our social services agencies here in East Haddam. We are creating a network of resources to provide holistic wraparound services. We want these services to include anyone in need, no matter the circumstances. We’re working to secure grants and other creative funding sources to deliver cooperative answers and provide lasting results. While we have accomplished a great deal, our work must continue, and I look forward to sharing more as we further our efforts.

We have also begun to collaborate with our schools in several different areas. The summer reading program is about to start. I am so proud of our new Library Director, Allison Murphy. She has stepped up to the plate and met early in her tenure with our schools to create exciting programs to keep the kids reading this summer! I introduced the CT Building Trades Council to our high school students this spring. It’s a new program model that allows us to collaborate with interested students to learn more about the building trades. We’ll also be looking to partner with American Bridge Co to show the students around the job site of our Swing Bridge Project. We hope that by seeing the work on this massive infrastructure program, we can excite our young residents about the possibilities available to them in skilled trades.
