Making Strides in East Haddam Village and Moodus

June 20, 2023

I’m most excited about our strides in economic development in both our East Haddam Village and Moodus. Shortly after I took office, the Redevelopment Agency was formed to spearhead and finish the work of the East Haddam Village Revitalization Committee. There were a few unanswered questions when the town voted to sell the old town hall property to develop a new village area. Since then, the Redevelopment Agency has agreed to oversee the town financing of future improvements and the brownfields mitigation concerns. We are all committed to more public outreach on the horizon. I applaud their efforts and look forward to sharing more as they continue their work. Looking around Moodus, I see a diamond in the rough. There is so much there already, from doctors’ offices to grocery stores, restaurants, the post office, the senior center, and the town hall. We’ve got the schools, the library, the skate park, and pickleball courts, all within walking distance. The platform for growth is astonishing. We just had the CT DOT team in to discuss the corridor of Rt 149 and the surrounding area, zoning has been changed to allow more uses, and we’re looking forward to securing grant opportunities to expand the sidewalks and create a walkable center for all to enjoy! We’re building a Merchants Group to allow businesses to advocate and join together. We want to develop areawide events to invite the public in to see our town and build a sense of community. There will be more to come, so stay tuned.
